MINNEAPOLIS — Say it the way he does: "6Twelve AP." The name is an area code and an identity at once, and for the Northside Minneapolis rapper it has always been the point. 612AP makes music about where he is from, for the people who are still there.

Born and raised on the city's Northside, 612AP has spent more than a decade building a voice in Midwest hip-hop that pairs gritty street narratives with conscious storytelling. His records lean on melodic flows and trap-inspired production, but the writing is the anchor — calculated, direct, and rooted in lived experience.

The 2013 breakthrough

612AP first made major noise in 2013, when he won the Minneapolis round of BET's "Rep Yo City" competition. The win sent him to the grand finale in Memphis, where he defeated the late Dallas rap star Mo3 — an early signal that a Northside Minneapolis artist could hold his own against the South's rising names.

He cites Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, and Nipsey Hussle as core influences, and the lineage shows: like Hussle, he treats independence and ownership as part of the art, not a footnote to it.

Bag Familia Records

That ownership mindset became Bag Familia Records, the independent label 612AP founded and leads. The label runs on a simple creed he repeats often:

“Starve Together, Eat Together.”

Loyalty, unity, and elevation are the stated principles, and they shape how he releases music — collectively, with the people who were there before the spotlight.

Feed The Streets Vol. 1

His latest project, the mixtape Feed The Streets Vol. 1, puts that philosophy on wax. Across six records — "Superfly," "Bread," "Chopped," "Go Crazy," "Calabasis 2," and "Chopper Down" — 612AP keeps the runtime tight and the energy high. The tape is offered free to listeners, with fans invited to support the movement through his official store.

Management and what comes next

612AP is officially signed to NFWA for management and marketing, and a new project is in development. For a Northside artist who has always measured success by who eats alongside him, the next chapter is about scale: bigger stages, wider reach, and the same principles.

"He's not just building music," reads the label's own description of him. "He's building a legacy."
